Evacuations Ordered, One Death Confirmed
Authorities in New Mexico have ordered the immediate evacuation of the town of Ruidoso as a wildfire rages nearby. The South Fork Fire broke out on Monday, June 17, west of the Mescalero Reservation and has quickly spread, forcing residents to flee their homes.
One Fatality Reported
Tragically, one death has been confirmed in connection with the fire, according to the New Mexico governor's office. The victim's identity and circumstances of death have not yet been released.
Evacuation Routes Limited
Residents of Ruidoso are urged to evacuate immediately as the fire continues to grow. However, evacuation routes are limited due to road closures. Highway 48 and Highway 70 at Apache Gap are currently closed, leaving few options for escape.
